JRPC lifts the Chief Minister Polo Cup( 10-02-2011 02:16 AM )

Oct 25 Two goal handicapper Bhawani Kalvi hit three brilliant goals that helped Jaipur Riding & Polo Club (JRPC) beat Thai Polo Club to lift the Chief Minister’s Cup at the JRPC ground here on Sunday. With this Jaipur Riding & Polo Club concluded their Polo Season. Apart from Kalvi, man of the Jaipur Polo season in 2008, local lad Tarun Bilwal made two goals for the winners while Colonel Kuldeep Singh Garcha’s son Satinder Garcha displayed brilliant game making three goals including a hat trick. Roddy Matthews slammed one goal for the visiting team of Thai Polo Club. Though the match was six goal handicap but despite it the game was very fast and both teams players played better then their handicap and the match was neck to neck. In the first chukker, the visiting team dominated the game taking 3-0 lead. Roddy scored one goal while Satinder Garcha made two goal in this chukker. In the second chukker, Kalvi converted 30-yard penalty into the goal and reduced the margin by 3-1. He again made a single handed goal for the winning team and scoreboard reading 3-2. Garcha missed two goals in this chukker despite being alone in front of the goal post. In the third chukker, talented player Tarun Bilwal scored an equalizer 3-3. But in the next minutes, Satinder Garcha made a brilliant goal using a back hand shot and gave one goal lead to his team 4-2. Thereafter Kalvi and Bilwal both made one goal each and leveled the score 4-4 in the third chukker. In the last and final chukker, Kalvi converted 40-yard penalty to give one lead and sealed the victory by 5-4. Director of JRPC and Arjuna Awardee Colonel Kuldeep Singh Garcha was the chief guest, giving away the prizes. Thai Polo Club chief Harald Link said on the occasion that it was a nice tour and we enjoyed in both of the matches. “I am thankful to Colonel Kuldeep Singh Garcha and his son Satinder Garcha who invited us here and gave us the chance to play polo matches", said Link.
